I don't not have a programmable thermastate . I have one that one that you turn up by hand . But it keeps sticking is there something that I can do to keep it from sticking

Sorry, but once this starts to happen, you simply need to replace the thermostat. And yes, the coil spring has worn out. Trust me, once a t-stat has failed, it is not repairable. The good news is you can find quality stats (honeywell is your best bet) for very reasonable prices.
