Do you have to file taxes if you are on disability
I am 62 and have been on disability for about 4 years. I have always filed because my wife worked and we useally got a big refund back. My wife is retired now and on SS. She has taken a part time job but it is min. wage. I have no big deductions anymore and was wondering if I should file married filing jointly or just have my wife file, and me not filing at all. I am afraid I will owe the IRS a lot of money. My disability is about 25,000 a year and wife's is 12,000 a year. We are in the state of Oklahoma.

You need to have your tax preparer model the return BOTH ways to determine which is best for you. Most preparers do this as a matter of routine with no extra charge. If your preparer refuses to do so, find another preparer.

I will do it if no one else will. Email me at the address in my profile.
