    Start-up issues
I have a rebuilt system which was working. My daughter took it and now it has issues. The system will begin start-up and as soon as XP begins to load the system powers down and restarts. It will how ever start in safe-mode.? Reformatted and reloaded windows and this has carried over. Any ideas? Thanks RW

This is not a solution but it reminds me of what I had to do once to repair a similar problem.

The computer would attempt to boot then quickly flash a blue screen error message (too quickly to read) then try to reboot again in an endless cycle. The only way to fix it was to figure out what the error message was. I used a digital camera and timed the appearance of the error message; after 5 tries I got a decent picture and was able to read the error message. A quick bit of Googling told me that I had a corrupted Registry and had to do some fancy copying in DOS to fix it.

Are you getting any error messages?

No error messages, any idea what symptoms would be of a dead MB battery? Since I posted it seemed to work after being plugged in for a while. Thanks RW

    Firstly,for RW Spring.Try http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/win_xp_restart.htm
For some interesting advice on XP boot problems and edits.I always use this site when ever I get stuck on some XP issue.
Secondly,to NeedKarma using his camera to take a pic of on an error message on his monitor.Five goes was it? I wish I'd thought of that at times.Even on start up,all that sys info that flashes before your eyes in a millosecond is annoying.I wish the PC would pause, then a message on the screen would appear saying,"now you've read all that, can I continue loading please?"
Are well,I'm sure someone will have a go... :)

    All the best you two,

    Do you have SP2 installed,

If you do, or plan to, make sure to check microsofts website for a tool to scan your system for a file that gets into your system as spyware and when you install Sp2 it causes these restarts until you get rid of it.
