Wiring a three wire cooktop to a 4 wire plug
I removed a 30 inch jennaire cooktop with an exhaust fan, which had a 4 wire connection, a white, black, red and ground. I am replacing it with a used bosch 36 cooktop, no exhaust fan, which only has 3 wires, black, red and green. The wire coming off the box has a single double breaker, likely 50 amp, 220v.

    What do you suggest?

    Thanks,

    Rich

    Turn off breaker.
For safety, check outlet for power with meter.

Assuming no power at outlet, remove 4-wire outlet and replace with 3-wire outlet. Cap white wire with wire nut. Connect black and red wires. Black and red can go to either terminal. Ground (bare or green) must go to proper terminal.

    Turn on breaker.
