Can't open internet explorer
In Windows 98SE with IE 6.0 SP1, I cannot open Internet Explorer. I have tried the OS' "Repair IE" tool; downloaded and ran IEfix, uninstalled IE 6.0 SP1, redownloaded and reinstalled it with no improvement. I have ran Hijack This and submitted the log to knowledgeable techs who found no problem therein. I am 98% sure there are no viruses nor spyware in this computer, as I have current antivirus, antispyware programs and Zonealarm installed.
When I click on the IE icon, nothing happens.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Cant open Internet Explorer
Hi Doug.Try this to see if this helps.
Start/Shutdown/Restart in MSDOS mode/at the C: prompt.type Scanreg/restore.Choose a date from the box that appears. In other words, one before you downloaded IE 6.0.Then Reboot your PC.
All the best,
Nez.
Postscript.Whoops.Sorry Fredg,was typing my answer on my keyboard,before I noticed your reply.Doh! :)
Cannot open Internet Explorer
Nez/Fredg--I have read both of your posts: Nez--I do not know how long ago I originally downloaded IE6.0, but I suspect it was as soon as IE 6.0 was released. I don't know if I can/should reset that far back, as I have probably added many "things" since then.
Fredg: I am anxious to try your fix, but for some time now (can't remember when I first noticed this), I have not been able to boot up into Safe Mode. I tried the three approaches you listed, none of which resulted in Safe Mode boot. Could it be because of AVG 7.0 antivirus that insists on scanning before Windows starts? I could disable that temporarily. Or I have a program (EndItAll) that will terminate all running programs not necessary for operation. Would that be the equivalent to Safe Mode? I am a little reluctant to vary from your instructions, so I will stand fast 'til I get your response.
