    Concerns about Shingles
My boyfriends mother just caught the shingles virus, and I am now a little over five months pregnant. As a little girl, I had the chicken pox. Can me and the baby be affected by her shingles?

Are you aware she didn't "catch the Shingles virus"? Because there isn't a Shingles Virus... Shingles is when the Chickenpox returning as a adult after you had it as a child. Once you had it it remains in your system for life, sometimes it reemerges as an adult.

Yes, your unborn child can be affected by it. Please stay away from her until this is gone.

I know how you get shingles. I haven't been around her, but we planned on visiting. The question is, Can the baby and I be affected by her shingles if I have already had the chickenpox?

Yes, as I already said the baby can be affected. Stay away until the outbreak is over.
