Cost of Halcion and Nitrous Oxide
    Hi,
I have a gum procedure coming up that I am super scared about. I don't want to really be awake but the Dental Coordinator said it would be 1500-2000 to put me under so that is out of the question. I asked about other options and she told me nitrous with halcion which would be 275.00. This seems high to me, since the cost of halcion/Triazolam is a 10.00 prescription. In the past she has tried to over charge me so I want to make sure this is in the ballpark. My insurance is a crappy individual DHMO, and I wish I had better coverage.
    Thanks for any help!

My son took Hacion and then was given nitrous during the dental procedure. The cost includes the dentist's and assistant's training, the administration, and any associated costs during the procedure. My son was able to respond as necessary ("open wider") but felt no pain, didn't hear the drill, and had no memory of any of it later. He said it was like 5 minutes from beginning to end, yet it was really about a two-hour procedure.

If you are unhappy about the costs, call around to several dental offices and ask what they charge.

275.00 seems about right. I paid 300.00 for my son when nitrous was used.
