How does a new spouse become added to a house deed and does this require a lawyer?

It doesn't require a lawyer but it's a good idea to use one. Essentially the owner of the house files a quit claim deed transferring ownership from themsleves to themselves plus another party. However if there is still a mortgage, then you would need to get the approval of the mortgage holder since thy have a lien on the property.
