My new HP dv5000 died and won't even turn on
    Hi,

I bought a HP Pavilion dv5000 last October. Last week it just died, that is turned off and never restarted, it seems totally dead. No lights sounds or anything.

Unfortunately my warranty was only for 90 days which already passed, so I took it to a service center and they replied:

    - It is very strange it seems the mother board and memory are dead. A fix would cost you 900 dollars

I am sure it is not possible that everything dies in a laptop just like that. Does anyone has any idea of what I can do? Please help me

HP generally warrants its laptops for one year against manufacturer's defects. Did you take it to an authorized HP Service Center? Best Buy's Geek Squad is one. The Warranty term should be listed on the service tag on the bottom.

As to why it died, its hard to tell, could be a defective part or it could have been a power surge or a couple of other things.

I notice some sites sell a lot of Power connectors for Laptops. The Part Your Power supply
Plugs into. Connects Battery, Charger, and Computer.

I got Lucky one time, Some one Threw out laptop and power supply in trash.
I saw the Letter"G" pushed in. I assumed Someone physically Smashed Keyboard.
I took home, took off the Letter "H" to see how connected. Got G + H back into place.
Then Before My Cannibalization Process. I tried to power on, Nothing.
Power Supply Had green LED lit. No Voltage present, Unplugged, Cut off end, Checked for voltage, Voltage Good. Went to Radio Shack bought plug and Ferrite.
    Soldered in place, WORKS GREAT.
After writing this, I'm thinking, Check power supply voltage. Battery could be dead.
