    What's wrong with Michigan?
    Hello:

The Republicans in the Michigan legislature have passed a bill that would allow hospitals, nursing homes or any other health care center to deny services that run contrary to the religious teachings or conscious of its leaders.

Really?? Given that our resident right wingers HERE think a pharmacist has the right to refuse service, I'll bet that they'd APPLAUD this move.

I, however, have the correct solution... I BELIEVE, like my right wing friends, that people HAVE the right of association. They SHOULDN'T have to do business with ANYBODY who's morals are beneath theirs..

UNLESS, of course, they want a license from the state (me) to practice their profession... In exchange for that license, the state (me) can and should require the applicant to adhere to a certain rules of behavior, ONE of which should be to dispense their services WITHOUT bias.

If they DIDN'T wish to adhere to the states rules, they're FREE seek another profession that doesn't require a license... That way, they can turn down ANYBODY they wish.

Where've you been? Doctors refuse services to patients all the time, they "fire" patients. Should lawyers be forced to take every case? Should my company be forced to service every fire alarm? Should an electrician be forced to work on your house? Should the HVAC guy be forced to work on your A/C? Should the liquor store be forced to sell a certain brand of beer? How far do you want to take this licensing thing?

A license merely means you're authorized to provide that service, it doesn't mean you have to. The idea that a license means a Catholic hospital should be forced to perform non-life threatening abortions because they're qualified and licensed to operate is absurd.
