    1991 Toyota Corolla Noise
My 1991 manual (5 spd) transmission Corolla is making a high pitched squeal when in gear and under torque (like going up a hill). I have the clutch replaced about two years ago. The car has 298000 miles (hoping to make 300000). There has been a lot of fluid leaking from the car lately. Is this a clutch problem or could it be lubricant missing from the transmission?

Yes to both. Sounds more like transmission or transaxle. Need to have someone check the fluid level.

Is this something that I can do myself, I do most of the mechanical work myself or does it require a lift?

This is a front wheel drive transaxle.

There will be a side or top nut to remove and check the oil level. Don't think there is a tip stick. Check the owners manual.

It was the oil level in the transaxle. Actually the fill cap was missing and there was only about 2 oz of oil when I drained it. I have replaced the oil and the cap. Should I change the oil out after a few months/miles? If so how long should I wait.
    Thank you for the assistance
