Need ideas on how to locate noise in house
There is a noise in my condo that I can not identify. It's a low thumping followed by a banging and floor vibration. After months of this I can not find where the noise originates. Any suggestions?? I thought it was water hammer and had a very expensive system installed and still have the noise. It isn't the furnace or air conditioner. Had both checked. And it happens even when they aren't on. If I go outside I can't hear the noise. It usually starts around 10pm and goes on all night! Need help!

This may be all too simple but is there any chance the noise is caused by neighbors on either side of you. Condo aren't known for having good sound insulation. I just sold one wher I could hear the grandfather clock above chime.

As far as I can determine noise is not coming from neighbors. It happens when they aren't hime and when they are.

Boy I'm stumped at the moment. Can you talk to some of your neighbors to see if they have the same experience? How is you condo heated; hot water, forced hot air, etc... Many mysterious noises in home is expansion of pipes and /or air ducts.
