    Traveling with gold
I believe my dad is being scammed. He was told when his friend was trying to board the plane that she was stopped because she had gold on her and that it was a felony to take gold out of the country. I's there any truth to that?

What form was the gold? Rings? Bracelets? Necklace? Blocks?

It doesn't matter what form. Ghana only imports gold; there is no resource in that country but gold. So yes, if she hadn't declared the gold, or known the weight then yes there may have been a problem.

    So therefore a felony.

So she is asking for money to help get the gold out of the country, correct?

    It is a scam.

Good call. I didn't think of that. May be the lack of sleep. ;)

He could not pay her enough money to get the gold out of the Ghana; yes a scam. I didn't catch it because it was an entirely different approach.

She hasn't asked for money yet, I'm sure that will happen in the morning. She was supposedly at the airport to come visit my dad when she was detained for having gold when they searched her. And now they are holding her at the airport

So she's being held at the airport, yet was miraculously able to get a message out...
All sounds a little too contrived..

Yes, this is yet another 419 scam I'm afraid..

Yes, this is a common scam, and I would guess she already asked for some money for pass port, visa or something,

But this works off greed, for the gold, he helps her sneak the gold out of the country, normally they want money up front, then money for other costs, if he does not pay soon, then he gets a phone car form someone saying they are with immigration or some legal department. Then they say he will be arrested if he does not pay.

    A common and famous scam
