    Step grandparents rights
    Hi my question is: My ex has a been raised by a man he calls step dad but the man never leaglly adopted my ex.My ex and I have two boys.I have decided to move on and get the step dad out of our lives because he has stolen money from my kids and I.He is also a sex offender.Can this man take me to family court and request grandparent rights?

    ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. However, unless he can establish that there is a prior relationship beneficial to the children, its unlikley a court will grant him rights.

    If the "step-dad" was married to your ex's mother, that's what he would be: a step-father. If the man had adopted your ex, he would be the father, not a step-father.

    In some states there is statutory provision for grand-parent rights. But, legally, a step-grandparent is not a grandparent entitled to assert such rights.
