Yes, a lawyer will be costly, but if adoption is what you want to do, that's what you'll need to do to get it done right. The lawyer knows all the red tape you have to go through, and will leave no stone unturned. I'd hate to see you get this child, bring her into your home, make her your own, and love her, only to have her taken away because all the t's weren't crossed, and i's weren't dotted. Worse, the mother or father of this child changed their mind, and there's no legal documentation to back you up.
This isn't something to scrimp on. This is something where you go all in, and pay the price, so that it's done right.
