72 gmc pickup truck 350 engine four brrl carb. The problem is when the truck is in drive the engine dies,but it will idle great in park. Can anybody help me out with this problem.

Thoughts:

. Test all under hood and under dash fuses with a test light or multimeter.

. Check/replace the automatic transmission gear position switch.

. Remove any aftermarket transistorized ignition system. Replace the points and condenser, set the dwell angle, and check the timing.

. Replace the spark plugs (ACDelco only) with the same plugs that originally came in the truck, if they have not been changed in 25,000 miles or 3 years.

. Remove the spark plugs and check each cylinder's compression, if the problem persists. Check dry and wet.
