    Pump won't prime
We have a 2-stage (2 pipes coming out) above ground Water Ace Pump with a GE 1/2hp motor (4 bolts) has 2 set screws on either side. Anyway, it will not prime - when priming water does not run back down the pipe -- when motor is turned on it won't prime and there is large mix of air.

The motor is relatively new and it has a new foot valve - was wondering if it could possibly be the impeller? Have dumped at least 60 gallons of water trying to get it to prime. Help!

I see what your saying but just to be sure When you pour in the water will it hold prime or does the water just run away? Let me know. Tom

Is it possible there is a check valve between the pump and the wellhead? If so, then water will run only from the impeller cage to the CV and no further. Jet pumps frequently have a port right at the wellhead where water can be poured directly into the wellpipe.

You may have a new foot valve installed but it sure sounds like it failed in the open position, Rather then pull the well point why not install an check valve on the suction line ahead of the pump. Good luck, Tom
