Pool P traps are very large compared to a house P trap. Many locations require a 3" trap which is easy to make from 3" PVC. Are you able to install this yourself? Why not ask the city or county for their requirements since we don't know your local code.

Where do you live? I have never seen a city allow anyone to drain their pool into the city sewer

I thought the same but found cities REQUIRING sewer hookup and not allow street runoff. Thus the P trap need.

In my area it's against both code and the law to discharge anything in a public sewer except human waste and gray water.
This is because everything that goes into the sewer [plant must be processed and treated as sewage. This increases the cost of operations which is then passed along to the homeowner as additional cost. I don't see why any city would allow a pool owner to discharge 30,000 gallons of pool water in their sewer system, It just doesn't make any sense. Cheers, Tom
