Washington state law credit card debt collection proceedures in court
Household credit is taking me to court for non payment of credit card debt after losing my job. What can the courts do?

    Hello J:

They'll grant them a judgment with which the can seize your bank accounts and garnish your wages. If you don't have either of those, then you won't notice much difference.

    Hello again, T:

No. It's UNSECURED debt. That means they had NO security. They can't all of a sudden GET security for the loan by suing you.

I am still very worried because why are they taking me to court if they can not collect on unsecured debt? Is this just to scare me into making a settlement that I can't aford?

    Hello again, J:

Look. You fall behind, they sue. There's NO thinking going on. It's all rote. I don't know if it's to scare you, or they're hopping that someday you'll have a bank account they can seize. It doesn't matter. They're going to sue you EVEN if they KNOW you don't have any money.
