    I called my boyfriend :) , he said:

    5W30 is typically used for the '01 and 5W20 for the '04 and up...
    He said that it could also depend on your climate.

    He works on hondas and is ASE certified... If you have any other questions,

    Honda probably recommends 5W-20 for your Civic. There should be a tag fastened to the air cleaner with Honda's recommendation. Prior to 5W-20, Honda recommended 5W-30 for many years. In reality, either will work fine in your Civic. Whatever one you choose, I would use a full-synthetic product.
