I'm not sure how I convinced myself that it would be OK to do this! Problem began when I opened up the shower wall (enclosed shower only) on the faucet side from the adjacent closet. I had had a leak and needed to get rid of some mold. On impulse I cut the shower pan liner in several places to dry out the inside, between the liner and the hardy backer. After replumbing the shower, I tested it and - disaster! My shower is tiled, and I'm assuming now that a tiled shower is designed to allow some water to pass into the shower pan liner. I need to repair the liner! Help!

That was a pretty big "OOPS"! So to repair a leak you took a knife and made several more? Not too swift a operation and now It's going to cost you. The tile floor will have to come up and a new shower pan installed. Good luck, Tom

OOPS? I would have said OH S$%T. And that is what you may say when you have to replace the liner. Not good!

Exactly what material is the liner made from? How accessible are each of the cuts? What is the area available around each cut to try and PATCH the liner?

Thanks for writing back. The liner is 40 mil PVC shower pan liner by Oatey. I made about 6 four-inch cuts from the floor up. My hope is to be able to weld them, and the cuts are accessible for such a thing. Is this a feasible option? What compound do I use and should I seek some scrap liner for patches?

You are very lucky to have access. Use liner material for patches and the liner solvent cement.

I don't know about patching 6 cuts in your liner. Plus you still haven't told us that you even located the original Leak that brought all this on. 6 cuts plus a hidden leak is a lotta chopping away at your shower pan, If this were my call I'd replace the shower pan rather then gamble on a quick fix. Just my two pence. Tom

Appreciate the input, Tom. I did find that the original leak was a loose connection where the shower head pipe screwed into the CPVC plumbing. Replumbed the whole thing, no more leaks.
