Here are a couple self soothing tools that have helped me.
I keep what's called an emotional trigger diary. Anytime I get *intense* feelings, I write down the feeling and try to figure out what has triggered it. Over the course of a year, I found that certain anniversaries, and specific things will cause a "trigger". What is important is to learn to self soothe. For me this may mean hug a teddy bear, take a bubble bath. And when its bad I listen to guided imagery tapes that are designed to reduce the anxiety. It's all about treating myself the way I would want my mom to treat me in a way that makes me feel better if I was a baby.
