My faucet on my bath top was leaking.It is a three handle system. I took the stems out and replaced the O-rings. Nothing is leaking anymore, but when the diverter is insalled, part of the water still flows out the tub spout when it is diverted to shower. The diverter parts are fine.

Is there a specific way, position, how the diverter has to screwed in.

The handle of the diverter just plugs or stops the water to the spout. The main mixing valve has a flapper that then sends the water up to the shower once the spout is plugged. You can replace the entire spout with the diverter for about $15, might be more quick, easier than try further repair. It unscrews with a strap wrench to avoid gouging the chrome.

The sayco diverter is sometimes difficult to pull out and in doing this the washer is damaged. You may need a new diverter stem.

I had the same problem until I discovered that there is two "o" rings, one goes in the grove the other slips over the washer end.:)

Hi sweetwilliam, I hope I will get more opinions so I have more options.
My problem is, that I'm helping out a friend who lives out in the bonnies, 2hrs
Away from any hardware store. So I do not have the diverter at the moment to
Show the part to a professional. Nobody answerd of my question yet,
is there a specific way to screw the diverter in or do I just screw it in????.
When I mentioned to doug238 that I understand more about the spout, I was not
Aware that the spout at my friends house had no flapper.

When I'm finished with this I will apply to work as an apprentice for a plumber.

What do you mean by washer end??
