I am trying to help my mom locate her birth parents, but don't know where to start searching. Also, there is a debate between family members if she is of American Indian descent. While her adoptive mother was still alive she didn't want to disrespect her by searching for her birth parents and it was never really talked about until Grandmas' passing. Now mom is getting older and having more health issues and if she is of American Indian descent, she will have more opportunities afforded to her such as... PROPER medical care. Please help, anyone. I know this is going to be a long journey, but they all began with that first step. Thank you.

In addition, if she needs medical information, some states allow you to petition for non-identifying medical information through the state. You would have to check with the Department of Records in the state where she was adopted.
