Got a girl I didn't know pregnant the first time we had sex. I tried talking to her about coming up with a visitation schedule and that sort of thing but she wouldn't cooperate with me. Then when the baby was born she wouldn't tell me what hospital they were in so that I could see him. She doesn't seem to want me to be involved so I would like to know how to go about signing over my rights to the child because I believe it's what's best for the child.

You can't sign over rights ? And who would you sign them over to, not the mother, she already has her rights, and does not need yours.

So she can't agree, who cares what she wants.?

You go to court file for visitation, set up proper child support payments and the court will order her to allow you to see the child.

I am in no position to care for the child right now. I am on parole and am having a very hard time finding work. I don't even have a vehicle right now and they live about 40 or 50 miles away from me, hell she won't even tell me where they live, what kind of father could I really be if I can't even go see the child ? She is with someone else who would be with the child daily and is better suited to be a father to the child. This child deserves better than the back and forth of a broken family. He needs stability and I honestly can't provide that. I see that you have commented on a lot of these type of questions. Do you have a legal background ? Do you know for a fact that the answers your providing people are legally correct or are you just voicing your opinion on other peoples life situations ?

It doesn't matter what your situation is: Unless someone is married to the mother and ready to adopt, you can not sign over your rights.

ESPECIALLY not to get out of child support. If you could, don't you think that there would be a line across the country for men who don't want to pay child support to do so?

Having sex = ready to have kids. Think about that going forward, because unless she marries that other guy and he adopts the child, you WILL be responsible for child support. If you want to exercise your rights to the child, then you need to go to court to get a visitation schedule set up.

This is the part that most bothered me about your posts. Why are you having sex with someone you don't know?

But I do believe you want to do the right thing here. However, I resent your tone about Chuck's answer. Chuck is correct, There is this myth that a parent can just sign over their rights, but its only a myth. Only a court can terminate parental rights and courts are very reluctant to do so (and yes, I know this is the law).

On the other hand, you don't have to do anything. If she is not asking you to be a father, then just leave it alone. While you have rights you don't have to exercise them. However, if she tries for public assistance, they will require that she identify the father and they will go after you for support.

Maybe she will find someone she wants to marry and have her husband adopt. Then she can ask you to relinquish your rights in his favor.
