    New frigidare refrigerator noises
We hear a long/short hum (not the compressor) in our 4 month old refrig. Have had it checked but explanations range from energy conservation to "what does it hurt" . It does get old. Just wondered if anyone else had this problem. We had little choice as the size in our small home for the fridge limited us to one option.

Sounds like it might be having a hard time starting up. A special start kit for that units compressor might stop that from happening.

Is this a general problem for energy efficiency? Any work like adding a kit will cost a home visit. Now wish I had gotten the ex. Warranty, but that adds on too! Thanks for the help.

It could be that it is having a hard time starting which means that the compressor is too tight. You can install a start relay with a start capacitor, but if the unit has a run capacitor make sure to install it in the system between start and run on the compressor. It's a very simple fix, but it has to be wired perfect, just make sure to get a hard start kit/start relay & overload that is big enough-at least for a 1/3 hp compressor. Also, make sure to check the run capacitor, if it has one, because it could be bad hence the starting problem.
