Exemption for alien dependents - parent
    Hi,

I am pretty sure someone asked this before. I tried searching the forum but could not find an answer.

    Visa: H1B
    Nationality: Indian
    Social status: Single

I support my mother who lives in India. She has not set foot in the US ever. Can I claim her as a dependent? Can I fill out an ITIN form for her and attach it with my returns?

I reviewed the IRS site but the definitions of qualifying relatives, dependents and exemptions made me woozy.

    Thanks!

No; to claim a foreign national parent, they must spend at least SOME time in the U.S.
