Car damage after redeeming a repo
    Hello,

My car was repo'd Thursday and I went to redeem it today. When I brought the car to the car wash I looked at my front bumper and found that it was totally damaged and cracked. It is enough damage that I need a whole new front bumper. I called the place where it was but they already closed for the day. I don't know what to do and what to say when I call them and confront this situation. Do they pay for it? Should I file a claim? Please help with any advice... thanks:)

You needed of course to inspect the car before you took it off their lot and make a note of it then.

You have no way to prove they did it, or if it was done by you after you left their lot.

You can make a claim but unless they live up to it, I doubtyou will prove it.

I have dealt with this situation recently. I went to pick up my car and there was front end damage to the vehicle. I immediately asked for a condition report and contact my lender to report that there was damage. I filed a damage claim with the lender and took photgraphs of the damage immediately. I contacted the Repo company and advised them of same. Of course, each company is pointing fingers at one another. The point is I reported it to the lender and took photos. The lender initially tried to say the have not responsibility but if they can repo it cause it is their property then the cannot bow out of resolving damage while it was in their possession or the possession of an agent they hired. File a claim with your lender and then ask them what else they need. Keep documentation and records of all contact with in connection with this. Or tell them to keep the car and excuse your loan. You did not buy a damaged vehicle.

I'm not sure what's the bigger joke: that statement you made, or the fact that this thread is over 2 years old.

You cannot get any lienholder anywhere to "excuse" your loan just because the vehicle was damaged while being repossessed. That is ridiculous to even suggest.
