How do I change my son's name??
Ever since my son was two weeks old we ran away from his father. I let him stay the night with his father for christmas. I went to pick my son up and with my child in his hands he hit me. So he went to jail and the judge gave a no contact order to him on my son and myself... now my son is 1 and there is still a no contact order.. he is named after his father but I want to change his name.. can I??

You will either have to get the fathers permission. ( not likely) or go to court and get the court to approve it.

How likely do you think that the judge would grant us that privilege??

Not likely to change it on those accounts. To change his name you will have to be married for at least a year (in most places) and your husband will have to petition for adoption.

Even considering the domestic violence with a child involved??

Domestic violence is no legal reason for a name change.

The judge will look at it this way...

He was good enough to have sex with. He was good enough for you to name the child after him, etc.

A legal reason for a name change is adoption.
