    Protecting equity outside homestead
    Hi there,

I was wondering how a person could protect a property that is completely owned without using the homestead act (it doesn't cover how much equity I have) from law suits. So if my equity is 200k and the homestead act covers 35k how do I protect the 165k that isn't covered?

Thanks in advance for our help.

You protect it by not doing anything which would allow someone to sue you and get a judgment against you.

Yes I understand that, but sometimes lawsuits can be unforeseen (ie: car accident that isn't fully covered by insurance) and I don't want easy money attached to my name.
