Hi All-
Just put in new cabs & countertops. The kitchen sink (double bowl) drain and supply lines come directly up through the floor. I have a disposal and dishwasher to connect too. What should my drain look like since a traditional p-trap appears out of the question? I don't have/want a hole on top of the couter for an air gap so is there another option and where does that fit into the scheme?

Don, since this is an update to an existing sink I'd guess that the drain already has a vent before it ties to the main drain. If you have never heard gurgling or has any other drain problems you should be OK. Your disposal should have a knock out on the side that will allow you to connect the dishwasher drain. S traps are not allowed by all codes but it sounds like that is what you have.

Thanks for your advice. Here are a few more details that might help describe the situatin better. In the remodel process the sink was moved to a different wall with the new drain line running through my crawl space into the main stack. I think the vent appartatus was in place but isn't now unless the main stack also has a vent. I have a whole new set up and the only thing in place is a drain that drops straight into the crawl and then turns toward the main stack and empties there (about 10ft away). I have limited but some skill in replacing drains but I am not sure where to start with this one. I thought about putting a p trap on the drain once it is down under the floor in the crawl but I am not sure if that is the way to go.

You could add a mechanical vent called a Studor vent. It isn't quite as good as a vent to the roof but they do work. Check a plumbing supply hhouse, don't see them at Home Depot.

Home depot carries the studor vent, it is about 24 bucks. Your plumber has planned on using a studor vent and a tee and a master trap. Why is he not completing the job?

Ballenger, whether a plumber was involved or not was never an issue, why make it an issue?
