I am in H1b Visa & I came here in Jun 2006. My wife came here on H4 visa in Jan 10, 2007.

What is my filing status and do I need to apply for w7 along with year 2006 tax return filing?

You can file jointly with your wife, choosing to be treated as resident aliens for all of 2006 and filing a W-7 with notarized passport photocopy with the return.
