I got a throat culture on a sore I had on my tonsil. I got it because I noticed a bump on my genitals a couple weeks ago. It healed and went away about a week later. My ob gyn said it was already too healed to take a culture but come back if it came back. A few days later.. I get like 3-4 canker sores in my mouth and a really sore throat. This is when I went to the dr and got a throat culture. I should have the results in a few days, but will the culture tell me if it is hsv1 or 2? I'm almost certain I have type 1 because I have gotten canker sores me whole life and so has my mom. But I am concerned that I have gotten the genital hsv2. I had unprotected sex with someone who doesn't have the best reputation. Will the throat culture be able to tell me if I have hsv2? I am very concerned about passing it on to my boyfriend.
