We have a lift station pump to pump from our home to the city main lines. The water is backing up , when we open the safety tank to see, it drains the water completely out, however, when it stop the water return. Is this normal?

    Hi Arcem

Nope, not normal! Water that gets pumped up should stay pumped up and out... ;)

It sounds like you may have an issue with your CHECK VALVE. Here, this valve has a flapper that moves forward when the pump turns on allowing waste/water to flow into the drain pipe... the flapper falls back after the pump shuts off stopping any waste/water from flowing back into the tank.

I'd get a plumber in to look at this... would be a quick fix for him, OK?

    I agree with Mark!
This could be as simple as a piece of debris caught in the flapper preventing it from closing. At any rate it's not a major repair. Good luck, Tom
