I am not tech savy and want to set up a password on my wifi D-link. What do I have to do. I see the above suggestions but where to you go to type. My daughter set this up so Im lost here... but I want it password protected to see if I get more speed.

You have to go into the router configuration to setup a password. The router manual will tell you how, If you don't have the manual in print or PDF you can download it from d-Link's website.

But applying a password won't have the slightest affect on speed.
