    Humming sewer ejector pump
Recently noticed a backed up toilet in the basement, did a little research, and realized it's probably the sewage ejector pump, now I have the top off, vacuumed out, but can't get to the impeller because it's connected to a pipe... cleaned out stuff best I can. But does anyone have any advice on how to disconnect from the pvc pipe would be helpful, because now when it's plugged in it just hums... no pumping. Checked the float, only when the float is up does it hum.

You can cut the PVC piping above the floor cover, pull the pump and try to free the impeller and use a Fernco fitting to reconnect. Isn't there a back flow/check valve? They are usually connected with thread clamps. The fact the pump works when the float is up is good, that part is working correctly. How old is the pump? 10 or more, typically time for a new pump.

Humming meaning the motor is probably seized but not turning.

I pretty much agree with ma but when you say hums I am thinking it isn't spinning at all, more reason to consider a new ejector.

This could be a burned motor out motor winding or debris preventing the impeller from turning. Pull the pump and check. Good luck. Tom
