GE Water Filter for Ice Maker
GE Water filter GXRTDR twist and lock method. Simple inset your 1/4 inch water lines into the end of the filter twist and lock. I have 1/4 inch plastic line in the back of the fridge for the ice maker. I also have in another room 1/4 inch copper tubing with a saddle valve that comes off the water heater. Goes in the fridge pump and then goes out up the plastic tubing up into the ice maker

Which is the best place to put the filter? See pictures

Anywhere between the supply and the fridge that is accesible. Looks like right above the water heater would be a good place.
