I am 54 my new guy is 52. We are both divorced. We met on a date 6 weeks ago and he told me he wanted to make me happy and for me to be a part of his life and wanted to see me again. He was very open and made it clear he liked me. However 2weeks later he said he just wanted to be friends. We talked and he said could we both not get too serious for the moment and be in a casual relationship and take it slowly. I have only seen him once a week which has been fine and I have never pushed anything and gave him his space. However he was not very well 2 days ago when I seen him and then text me 2 days after to say he was going to stay with his parents for a week.

I said OK and agreed with him and made it quite plain that he was staying with them after the day I normally see him? I am off work this work he knows this and all he has is a cold but hasn't made any arrangements. I am not ringing or texting him at all giving him space. He normally texts on a morning but hasn't since our conversation. Is he trying to cool things slowly and trying to make it easy to end this what he calls 'companionship' for the moment or am I being too serious about the whole thing?

I would not take him or the relationship seriously. I would not contact him at all.
