Hey Folks
I know this a rather common issue, but there are several variations on it that make me unsure which way to turn. I have a Bryant furnace (6 years old) and the original blower motor was replaced, along with the fan wheel, about 2 years ago. Now I get this intermittent issue of it not turning on... buzzing/humming sound is heard and motor will not spin until I give it a whirl by hand usually. Sometimes it does come on but only after several cycles of trying to turn on. Do motors go out that frequently after just 2 years? Could it just be the start capacitor? Should a motor cost somewhere around 160-180 dollars or more?

Hi jsudsman,

These issues always happen, but for the case you detailed, as long as the motor does not spin until you whirl it by hand and it works normally after that, that means the start-up capacitor is damaged somehow, try to get a new capacitor with the same specifications and replace it, you can do that by yourself no need for technicians. For new AC motor (capacitor start type) yeah it should be within the range you specified not more than 200$.
