    Retail Theft
I am wondering if you get caught outside store like half way down the block can it still be retail theft.
I was wondering because I was with my so called friend and he did take something from the store. They charged me as well because I was with. Him at the time.

Why does it matter where you were caught? Inside the store, outside, a mile away... if the stuff was stolen from the store, it's retail theft.

You're saying you didn't take anything or even know that your friend did? If that is actually true, then not only do you need to find better friends but a lawyer as well.

The authorities probably weren't sure which of you took the item so they are charging you both. What they will have to prove is that either
    • you took it; or
    • you helped your friend either in
      • deciding to take it; or
      • trying to conceal the fact that he took it.

You are going to need separate attorneys because it's in your friend's interest to make it look like you are the perpetrator and that he didn't have anything to do with it.
