    L1-A Here for the all of 2012
    Hi,
    I moved to the US in Nov 2011, and have completed my 2011 tax returns as a NRA.

    So am I still a NRA for 2012, I have been here for the full year so far. I am here with my wife and 2 kids all on a L2. My wife has a SSN and work authorization. Kids have tax IDs.

    So do I still put NRA in my W4, and file as a single person?

    Thanks

    G.

    For 2011 you were a non-resident alien with filing status married filing separately on your return.
    For 2012 you fulfill the substantial presence test and you can file as married filing jointly.
    To determine how many exemptions to claim on your W4, you can use the IRS calculator;
