    Bathtub drain
I have an upstairs bathtub that the drain won't open up. The lever that opens and closes the drain broke... how do I get the drain open. I can't get at it from the drain itself. Im at a loss for what to do next.

So the popup lever broke. Have you unscrewed the chromed access plate yet? When you do, all you need to do is lift and pull out the linkage. Once that is done then take it to the store and get another one . Pretty easy for me to say, huh? Nm :)

Remove the chrome overflow plate and pull the plate and lever out. I'm guessing you have the left hand type of stop and waste. If the linkage can be reached then pull it out, but if the linkage comes free but the bucket/stopper is still down there fish it out with a bent clothshanger. There's a cross bar on top of the bucket that can be hooked on to. You may now repair the linkage or replace the stop and waste. Good luck, Tom
