    yr 8 jabs
Hi! I'm in year 8 and on Monday we have to have our jabs to prevent survical cancer and obviously I want to have the jab because I don't want cancer but I'm really really nervous and I am honestly so scared although I know I'm being stupid and it is jusrt a quick jab and everyone keeps saying it will be okay and won't hurt but I can't get the idea out of my head. X please help because the more I try to think about it I get more scared but can't stop thinking about it.

Hello Kat. I can sympathize, because when I was about your age I absolutely hated getting shots (jabs as you call them). But then I found that I was allergic to bee stings, and the cure was to build up my immune system through a series of shots of bee venon at ever-increasing strength. This meant I would be getting a series of about 25 shots over a period of a year. At first I dreaded it, but I learned a technique that made it OK, and actually now I don't mind getting a shot at all. The technique I use is to relax as much as possible. I cradle the arm that's getting the shot with the other arm or in my lap so that the muscles in that arm are as relaxed as possible, I look straight ahead, I take slow, controlled breaths, and I tell myself to not tense up or fight it. Like I said, I find that it's really not unpleasant at all. Good luck with it!
