I have a condition that will require pain pills for the rest of my life. Every month they continue to come up missing. During this time, we have lived in three different places. My husband is allergic to what I am prescribed and, besides, he has his own pain pills.

We thought that maybe I was sleep walking and taking them with out knowing it so my husband hid them and dispensed them to me every day. Some of them still came up missing. I have tried locking them in our safe where only I have the security code but some still came up missing. None of my other medications are affected.

I have locked them in the glove box in my car, but no luck. This has been going on for 4 years and I am at my whit's end. I don't know what to do about it. If I tell my Dr I suspect that a ghost is taking my pain pills I'm sure he'll fit me for a straight jacket.

I am going to try locking them up with my bible and see if that doesn't make a difference.

I would appreciate any suggestions anyone can provide or hearing of similar problems other people have experienced - if anything at least so I don't feel like I'm losing my mind.

Have you ever had any recent paranormal experiences?

If this has been going on for four years I seriously doubt it is a paranormal experience. I do believe though that it could be a subsconscious occurrence perpetrated by yourself. Probably seeking professional help would be an answer to as to why you want to diminish your supply of pain pills, but my question would be, why have you been on this medication for that long a time and why exactly are you taking pain medication?

I would worry that it has has an adverse effect on your stability.

A common sense answer, IMO.

When you received your prescription, have you counted the pills to see if you are getting the number written on the vial?

I have found several times, I come up one or two pills short on my monthly pills from a drug store. How do they count the pills, by machine counter, or by weight ?

This really goes beyond counting pills, this has been going on for four years! At best they would be counted owing to the kind of meds they are. Dispensing meds by weight is a very dangerous practice.

You don't say if the same company has provided them for 4 years.
You don't say how many go missing each month.
You don't say if anyone else lives with you.
It could be your husband, despite what you say (or someone who lives there).
It could be you sabotaging yourself.
It could be a counting mistake, especially if they aren't taken on a regular schedule.

Yes, I do so AGREE with all of your points; and my thinking exactly !

I am having some of the same thoughts as joypulv. I do not want to come across as judgemental but it sounds like someone that lives in the home may have drug dependency issues. I do have an idea that may help. You will need to get a new safe that cannot be picked .(it will have to be a high quality safe). How this will work is your husband will only have part of the combination and you will have the other half .By doing this neither one of you can get into the safe without the other being present. I would count your meds when you get them filled and Iwould keep a medication log so each time you take a your medication you write it down and you Both initial it. I know this sounds like a lot but if you really want to resolve this problem that has going on for four years the trouble would be well worth it. If you cannot find a secure combination safe I would find a safe that takes a key(s). If it only has one lock I would take it to a locksmith and have a second lock added,(your hubby keeps one key, you take the other). I know this sounds like drastic measures but it should end your disappearing pill dilema. .

A lot less expensive then changing the safe would be to have a locksmith come in and change to combination.

Maybe someone can trade your pills for pills they need.
If the pills are narcotics and the allergy causes mild reactions, I think that a person in need of a narcotic would be willing to put up with mild side effects to satisfy a dependency or addiction..
It is not my intention to point the finger at anybody here and I am not an expert on the subject by any means, but you asked if anyone had known of a similar situation and I do know of a similar situation that involved my best friend taking his wife's oxycodone with all the same stories of lockboxes and hiding pills etc. Even some fake medicine was put in place of the real stuff to cover it up which resulted in her going through withdrawal symptoms and not knowing why. And this was done by a guy who has taken extremely good care of his wife during her long illness. I am sorry to say that I believe that there is no limit to what a person in need of a narcotic (or alcohol) will do based on my close experiences with people on both. Things never quite add up or make sense when drugs and alcohol are involved.

How old are you? How many pills seem to come up missing ?

What is the name of the medication you are on? If you do not mind me asking, what do you have to take them for? You mentioned that your hubby is allergic to pain meds and he has his own? What is he allergic to and what does he take? I am just trying to get a complete picture of your situation and by no means am I pointing a finger at anyone. I am just trying to rule out all possibilites. Working as a Hospice nurse we ran across all kinds of situations with family members and medications and sometimes the situation is not what it seems.
