I have a single handle moen faucet in a shower that I barely use. Cold runs fine, but when you turn handle all the way to hot, very slow trickle comes out and it is not hot.

I'm confident that I need to replace the cartridge, but I don't know how to take apart the faucet assembly... specifically the single handle. It looks like there is a single screw on the faucet handle assembly, but it does not look like any screw I've seen before. The female part is circular (not flat head nor phillips).

Can anyone tell me how to remove the moen single arm assembly, so I can get to the cartridge?

You need to rotate the cartridge not replace it. Most fixture manufacturers have inserts that allow hot-cold reversal. The screw in the center insert is a square socket tip that you can get at any big box store. Make sure you get the correct size. Once the screw is out, then pull the cartridge from the diverter and rotate it 180 degrees. It may even be 90, and depends on manufacturer. Nm:) its been a while

Do not rotate the cartridge. Do not remove the cartridge. The single arm assembly is held on by an allen type screw. Before you work on this call moen customer service and explain the problem. They are likely to tell you how and give you free parts to go with it.

Your in luck. My company installed nothing but Moen valves in their new construction. First turn off the water , then pry off the plate directly on top of the handle. You will find a screw underneath, remove that and pull out and up at the samre time on the handle. Work it around a bit and it should come free. You will see a brass clip holding in the cartridge. Before you pull that clip, PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION AS TO HOW THE CARTRIDGE AND THE CLIP ARE POSITIONED IN THE VALVE BODY, yOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO INSTALL IT THE SAME WAY. Pull the clip and take the white nylon tool that came with the new cartridge and try to break the cartridge free. If you can turn the cartridge pull up on the stem to remove the cartridge. For those'hard to remove cartridges' Moen makes a cartridge puller that can be purchased at your local plumbing supply house. Don't forget to coat the new cartridge with the silicon lube that came with the new cartridge. Never use grease or oil on neoprene "O" rings. Now just put everything back the opposite way you took it apart. Good luck, Tom
