My children's father is a recently convicted child molester... my children are 15 and 13... how do I go about trying to get him or the court to sign his rights over? I have been happily married for 2 years and my husband is willing to adopt the kids...

The father's past doesn't matter if he's willing to sign to have the children adopted.

You need to contact a Family Law Attorney.

I would never attempt an adoption without an Attorney. Too many things can go wrong.

The birth father signs the necessary papers, there is a hearing, the papers you have prepared and signed are submitted, the Judge approves the adoption.

Well I didn't know since he is not allowed to be around children under the age of 18... I know some states will terminate the parents rights for being a sex offender...

If he's willing to sign why would you go through the process of terminating his rights and then the adoption? Why not do both at once?

Without knowing which State you are in it's impossible to say whether his rights can be terminated.

If the father is willing to sign, then let him sign and the process becomes straightforward and simple. The paperwork is prepared (by an attorney), everyone signs and the judge signs his approval.

If the father is not willing to sign, then you need to bring up his record and request that the court terminate his right to allow the adoption.
