I have a beckett oil fired furnace that I turned on this morning and it started to fire up then after a minute or two it sounded like a small fuel explosion, any ideas

If memory serves me right... thats usually indicating a poor spray pattern from the injector or possibly the ignitor... either of which you want to get a pro out to check for you.
