GE Gas Stove 2007 - Model JGBP28EEM1WH

Would like to lift the top on this stove. I've removed the grates, etc. and
Pulled upward but no go.. Only moves about 1/4"

I have read that some stoves would be damaged by lifting the top??

Any suggestions, can this one be lifted and how.
