I was rapped but thought my daughters father was my current boyfriends. DNA proved it wasn't and now he wants to adopt her. He has been physically and financially taking care of her for 3 years and although we are not together he wants to remain her dad and apart of her life. What steps do I take next. In Michigan

Do you know the identity of the bio father? Was there a Police Report filed at the time?

In general you need written permission from the bio father to allow your husband to adopt her - boyfriends cannot adopt children. The Court wants a commitment between the parents before it allows an adopton to take place, usually a marriage of one year.

If you don't know the identity of the birth father there is an affidavit which you would need to sign.

But, again, the Courts require that you be married in order to adopt.
