I have a 3 year old dog who has horrible separation anxiety and anytime you pet, call or touch him he pees... we have had him since 6 weeks old and know the family we got him from he is not beat just told no. I figured he would eventually grow out of it but isn't the vet wants to put him on meds but I really cannot afford it... HELP!

I don't know, a dog who is so afraid when he is called and pees, tells me that someone, somewhere called him and probably beat the crap out of him when he came, but yet you say you got him at 6 weeks old which is kind of young to develop that sort of anxiety issue.

If he has a separation anxiety, then he is left at home alone while you go to work? Please explain how you think he has a separation anxiety? And you say he is just told NO with no other retribution?

I hope we can help you through our other pet experts. I have no ideas at the present time other then what I have stated above. The dog is afraid to come when he is called, afraid he will be chastised for something. At 3 he has just turned into an adult. Someone has to be kinder to him I would think and if someone in your household is not, and he is not liked, then re-home him.

Actually I am a stay at home mom so the only time he is left alone is while I do my running around. When I explained to the vet that while gone even for 30 minutes the fact that he will pee and poop and tear everything up in the house she said that it was separation anxiety. And it's not that he's scared he will come wagging tail it's more of an over excited peeing everywhere

I am glad you didn't take offence at my post, some others would and it has happened which has stygmatized other answers. Some people don't want to hear what we have to say and it is usually well meant and supposed to be helpful.

Oh no I would never take offense you don't know me or the situation so a little further clarification was needed. Thank u for the link. We have another dog who is 1 and shows none of the same behaviors. I just don't really want my dog on meds so I will try some techniques and see how it works. I just pray something helps!

We have quite a few very good pet experts here, some are vet assistants so my answer is not the only one you will see. The point is, we are all volunteers here so it takes a while for the experts to get around to answering at times. I am glad you found the link helpful, it was a lot of reading, if you even got around to it yet. I wouldn't want to see your pet on meds either !

Actually... There is a fine line between a submissive dog, who will pee when touched, and an abused dog (who will react the same way). So to claim the dog is abused because he pees when touched is incorrect.

Separation anxiety will cause a dog to defecate and urinate while stressed, but not when touched.

I think the vet wants to rule out medical conditions such as urinary incontinence. I wouldn't be apposed to trying the meds to see if it is medical.
